This CE webinar is designed to educate dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and others about the problems of child abuse and neglect, bullying, intimate partner violence, elder abuse and neglect, and human trafficking.
Sheryl Syme, RDH, MS
Sheryl L. Syme, RDH, MS has been Director of Education for the Mid-Atlantic P.A.N.D.A. Coalition for 17 years and presents continuing education courses to dental and dental hygiene professional associations, as well as dental and dental hygiene students. Sheryl is primary author on three textbook chapters and several journal articles on the topics of family violence and human trafficking. Sheryl is a member of the University of Maryland, Baltimore Intimate Partner Violence Community Collaborative and is a Coach and Advisory Board Member for the UMB Roundtable on Empowerment in Leadership and Leveraging Aspirations. She is Associate Professor in the Division of Periodontics, Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics and served for many years as Dental Hygiene Program Director, Director of the BS Degree Completion Program, as well as Graduate Program Director and founder of the Dual Degree BS/MS Clinical Dental Hygiene Leader Track at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Sheryl obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and her Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland Graduate School with an area of concentration in Community/Institutional Health and Geriatrics. Sheryl was the 2016 University of Maryland School of Dentistry Dental Hygiene Linda DeVore Alumnus of the Year. She is a recipient of the Maryland Community Oral Health Hero Award from the Maryland Dental Action Coalition. Sheryl is an invited expert guest reviewer for the Journal of Dental Education and serves as editorial review board member for the Journal of Dental Hygiene and Dimensions of Dental Hygiene. Additionally, she has been the State Clinical Director for the Maryland Special Olympics Special Smiles Program for 15 years.
